The cinema industry in the United States, also referred to as Hollywood, has had a large effect on the film industry in general since the early 20th century. Hollywood has amounted over $ 11.1 billion dollars in box office sales as at 2017. In this piece, we’re going to take a look at the highest grossing movies for the first quarter of 2019.

  1. CAPTAIN MARVEL : Captain marvel is the highest grossing movie in the first quarter of 2019. It has amounted over 236 million dollars in box office sales.( filmone Digest )

Captain Marvel is a 2019 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. Produced by Marvel studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Geneva Robertson-Dworet also contributing to the screenplay. Brie Larson stars as Danvers, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn,  Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, and Jude Law.

In 2017, Paramount announced that it was fast-tracking a remake of the 2000 Nancy Meyers film What Women Want. On February 2, 2018, Adam Shankman signed on to direct the film.  What Men Want is a 2019 American romantic comedy film directed by Adam Shankman and starring Taraji P. Henson, Aldis Hodge, Richard Roundtree, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and Tracy Morgan. (Wikipedia)

  • ALITA : THE BATTLE ANGEL-  This is the third highest grossing movie in the first quarter of 2019 having made over   113.8 million Dollars in box office sales. .( filmone Digest)

Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the film is co-produced by James Cameron and written by Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Rosa Salazar stars as the titular heroine Alita, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson also star in supporting roles.   • GLASS: Glass is the fourth highest grossing movie on the list of highest grossing movies in the first quarter of 2019. It has made over 58 million dollars in box office sales. .( filmone Digest)

Glass is a 2019 American psychological superhero thriller film written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, who also produced with Jason Blum, Marc Bienstock and Ashwin Rajan.  Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Spencer Treat Clark, Charlayne Woodard, James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sarah Paulson, Adam David Thompson, and Luke Kirby make up the cast. (Wikipedia)

  • THE UPSIDE: The Upside is the 5th highest grossing movie in the first quarter of 2019. It has made over 43.3 million dollars in box office sales. (filmone Digest)

The Upside is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Neil Burger and written by Jon Hartmere. It is a remake of the French 2011 film The Intouchables, which was itself inspired by the life of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo. The film follows a paralyzed billionaire (Bryan Cranston) who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a recently paroled convict (Kevin Hart) whom he hires to take care of him. Nicole Kidman, Golshifteh Farahani, and Julianna Margulies also star.
